As a sociologist and criminologists, I am interested in social processes, changes and developments, and the accompanying effects on the population. I teach and conduct research on various topics in sociology and criminology with a focus on institutions of formal social control, especially the police. My research is guided by a basic interest in human attitudes and values, their causes and modes of action. Which behaviour or people are perceived as deviant or vulnerable, or who is trusted, influences behaviour and comes into play in interactions, for example, between the police and the public.
